Would your child like to learn a new language or learn more about his/her heritage language and culture?
The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is offering a distance learning International Languages Elementary Program (ILEP) through our St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education Centres. The program is available to elementary school children, Kindergarten to Grade 8, free of charge.
Current educational research shows that learning or maintaining a second or third language has a positive effect on all aspects of a child’s educational development.
The focus of the elementary program is to offer children an opportunity to develop and/or maintain the ability to listen, speak and write a new language or the language of the home or heritage, and at the same time learn about the culture and heritage associated with the language. Activities will focus on oral communication, reading, writing and the culture of the target language.
The total amount of instruction includes the teaching time led by the ILEP instructors, as well as the time that the students will spend in working on learning engagements assigned by the instructors. The classes will involve meeting in Microsoft Teams, studying materials posted in myClass as well as student on-line and off-line activities.
